The 2023/ 2024 Premier League season kicks off on tonight with defending champions and treble-winning Manchester City facing Burnley as they will begin their bid for a record fourth consecutive title.
This season’s Premier League will be the 32nd season of the Premier League and 125th season of top-flight English football overall.
Last seasons champions Manchester City are playing away in the opening fixture against the Champions of the English Championship, Burnley. City’s legend and former captain Vincent Kompany spearheaded Burnley’s return to the Premiership. Tonight, his boys will face his old team and former boss, Pep Guardiola
Manchester City will be without former captain Ilkay Gundogan, who left for Barcelona, and Riyad Mahrez, who has signed for Saudi side Al Ahli. Croatian duo Mateo Kovacic and Josko Gvardiol are the only two new arrivals in the transfer market so far.
Going forward, the 2023-24 season, which begins 76 days after the end of the 2022-23 season, will consist of 34 weekends, three-midweek rounds and a Bank Holiday match round. Also, no rounds of fixtures will take place within 48 hours of each other around Christmas and New Year of 2024.
