The Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, has announced that the automation of Nigeria’s passport application process is almost done and will be operational in a week. He made this statement on Tuesday during an interview on Channels Television.
According to Tunji-Ojo, the automation will enable Nigerians to apply for their passports online and upload their passport photographs and other required documents from their homes. He said the only thing they will need to do at the immigration centres is to do their fingerprint biometrics.
He also revealed that e-gate systems will be installed at all the international airports in the country by February 2024. He said this will make it easier for Nigerians to enter the country without having to see an immigration officer, except if they are persons of interest.
