Afrobeats superstar, Burna Boy, has been named “Best African Act” at the MTV Europe Music Awards Africa for 2022, adding to his growing list of accolades.
On Sunday, November 13, 2022, the award ceremony was held at the PSD Bank Dome in Düsseldorf, Germany. The Best African Act category was announced at the pre-award ceremony, and Burna, who was nominated alongside Ayra Starr, Black Sherif, Musa Keys, and Zuchu, won the award after an eventful 2022.

Tems, another Afrobeats artist, lost the Best New Artist award to K-pop band Seventeen. At the awards, there were also performances by artists, including Stormzy, South Africa’s Nasty C, Nigeria’s DJ Spinall among others.
Burna Boy has had an incredible year so far. His song “Last Last” broke many records around the world and was arguably the summer anthem. His most recent album, “Love Damini,” has received over 300 million streams across all platforms.
This is not, however, Burna’s first win in this category; he also received the award in 2019 following an eventful year.
