Novak Djokovic says he has “a tremendous respect” for Roger Federer and underlined the impact the former 20-time Grand Slam champion had on tennis. Djokovic, a 21-time Grand Slam champion, took part in Federer’s farewell at the Laver Cup.

Federer was one of Djokovic’s biggest rivals, but the Serb has nothing but a great level of respect and admiration for the Swiss. “I have a tremendous respect for him,” Djokovic said of Federer, per Sportskeeda.

“Everything he has contributed to our sport, on and off the court, has been an epic career. A career that he can be proud of. He has left a legacy and a mark that will be eternal, really, for our sport. He has transcended tennis”

“He is one of the most recognized athletes of all time. It is a sad moment for tennis to see Roger say goodbye.”

Djokovic, 35, is still very healthy and exceptionally prepared. But witnessing Federer’s retirement got Djokovic thinking about the day when he will say goodbye to the game. “I must say, I was also thinking about how it would look for me when I say goodbye to tennis,” Djokovic said.
