The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila, has demanded that relevant authorities take immediate action in response to the attack on St Francis Catholic Church in Owo, Ondo State.

Gunmen attacked the church during worship on Sunday, killing at least 25 people and kidnapping others, including a priest.

Gbajabiamila condemned the horrific act, describing those responsible as enemies of the state, in a statement released by his Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Lanre Lasisi.

The assailants, according to the Speaker, must be located and dealt with appropriately.

He was perplexed as to why anyone would attack worshippers in their place of worship, claiming that only a wicked mind could kill in such a mindless manner.

The Speaker expressed concern that terrorists, kidnappers, bandits, and other criminal elements in the country are becoming more active daily.

The lawmaker, who was outraged by the recent development, stated that the constant attacks on innocent citizens of the country must stop.

He urged all security agencies to increase their efforts to bring the country’s insecurity under control, particularly by increasing intelligence gathering to prevent any impending attack.

Gbajabiamila expressed his condolences to the Ondo State government for the tragic incident. He also prayed for the souls of those who died in the attack to rest in peace.
