Governors were not asked to choose a consensus candidate, Adesina clarifies

The Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina, issued a statement on Thursday disputing claims that his principal proposed a consensus or zoning structure in advance of the June 6 APC presidential primary.

Adesina emphasized in his article headed “Visit to Spain: Let’s Buga for Mr. President” that Buhari just met with the governors and informed them of his hopes for the next presidential primary of the party.

Buhari never addressed zoning, consensus, or imposition of candidates with the governors, according to the presidential spokesman.

“Not a word about zoning, consensus, or candidate imposition. He only urged them to coordinate their efforts so that the party could present its best front. “Immediately following the meeting, we headed to the airport,” Adesina said.
