Bola Tinubu, the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential candidate, said he has chosen and submitted the name of his running mate to INEC as required by the law.
He made this remark in response to INEC’s Commissioner for Information and Voter Education, Festus Okoye, who said the concept of a placeholder was foreign to the Nigerian constitution.
Tinubu chose Kabiru Masari as his running mate after becoming the APC presidential candidate.
However, there are speculations that Masari was used as a placeholder to allow APC to meet INEC’s deadline for submitting names chosen for the role of running mate.
Tinubu, speaking through his Media Aide, Tunde Rahman, denied that Masari was a placeholder.
“Without addressing the INEC’s National Commissioner, I’d just like to state the situation as it relates to the APC’s presidential candidate, Aswáj Bola Ahmed Tinubu.”
“And it is that Aswáj Tinubu has duly completed his nomination forms, including providing information about his running mate.” He has given INEC the completed nomination forms. He even returned the forms two days earlier than expected.
“I’m not sure about a placeholder. This is a media expression. I know he’s chosen a running mate.”
