Iyorchia Ayu, National Chairman of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), will embark on a 14-day trip to Europe. This was revealed in a statement issued by his media aide. The purpose of the trip, however, was not mentioned. The Chairman plans to return to the country at the end of September.
While the Chairman is away, the party’s Deputy Chairman, Ambassador Iliya Damagun, will serve as Acting Chairman.
Ayu has faced several challenges in the last two months, including a call for his resignation from a faction of the party led by Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike. However, 397 members of the party’s National Executive Council (NEC) voted in favour of the Chairman.
Nobody knows what will happen within the party at the moment, and with campaigns officially starting at the end of the month, it is critical that the party get its affairs in order as soon as possible.
