The Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, has sacked all the directors of the agencies under his ministry. The affected agencies are the Nigeria Airspace Management Agency (NAMA), Nigeria Civil Aviation Agency (NCAA), Federal Airport Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), Nigeria Meteorological Agency (NIMET) and the Nigeria Safety Investigation Bureau (NSIB).
This comes after President Bola Ahmed Tinubu fired the managing directors and chief executive officers of the aviation agencies. The former Minister of Aviation, Hadi Sirika, had appointed some directors for the agencies at the end of the previous administration. Sources said the appointments had caused confusion and duplication of roles in the agencies.
The Director of Public Affairs, Federal Ministry of Aviation, Olusey Odutayo, said in a statement in Abuja yesterday: “I am directed to inform all directors of the following agencies that they have been relieved of their appointments forthwith and should hand over to the most senior officers in their various directorates with immediate effect.”
He said the change in the leadership of the aviation CEOs and MDs was to reposition the aviation sector and ensure safe and efficient air travel for Nigerians in line with the Renewed Hope Agenda of the President.
He added that the board secretaries and legal advisers of the agencies were not affected by the directive.
