Major Cities In Darkness As Vandals Hit Transmission Line

The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) said its Gwagwalada-Kukwaba-Apo 132KV Transmission line was vandalised by unknown persons on Sunday night. The incident occurred around 1 am between Towers 23 and 25, according to a statement by Ndidi Mbah, the General Manager of Public Affairs of TCN.

The vandalism resulted in the suspension of bulk power supply on the line, which prompted an early morning investigation by TCN linesmen. They discovered that the vandals had stolen conductors, leading to a power outage at Kukwaba Transmission Substation.

Mbah said TCN had restored bulk power to Kubwa Substation at 07:08 pm through Apo Substation as a temporary measure. She said TCN was working to repair the damaged line as soon as possible.

In a related development, the national power grid collapsed on Monday afternoon, plunging the entire country into darkness. Mbah confirmed the grid failure in another statement in Abuja. She said TCN was working to restore the grid as quickly as possible.
