Manchester United finally managed to get the better of the outgoing Paul Pogba as his Old Trafford exit was officially announced.
The Frenchman is out of contract at the end of June and speculation raged all season regarding his next move. It has now been announced that he will wave goodbye to the Red Devils on a free transfer when his deal expires ahead of 1 July.
United confirmed his exit on Wednesday afternoon with a lengthy statement reliving the highlights of the World Cup winner’s six-year spell with the club after his then-world-record switch back from Serie A outfit Juventus in 2016.
With the midfielder waving goodbye – and seemingly on the verge of yet another free transfer to join the Italian club – it would appear that the Old Lady have twice got the better of United in signing Pogba.
Juve initially swooped for his services back in 2012 as his contract expired. The Frenchman went on to become a star in Turin, eventually tempting the Red Devils into spending a club-record £89million to bring him back to the club.
However, that embarrassment appears to have been worsened with Pogba once again set to leave for nothing. Despite that, United appear to have ruined the Frenchman’s plans. The midfielder is set to be the topic of an Amazon Prime Series titled ‘The Pogmentary’ later this month.
His spell at Old Trafford is set to be covered, with some suggestions that his United exit and subsequent move to Juventus was set to be announced during the series – a plan that now appears to be in tatters.
Despite that, Pogba still penned a touching message to the Red Devils ahead of his departure. Taking to Instagram, he wrote: “I feel privileged to have played for this club. Many beautiful moments and memories but most importantly an unconditional support from the fans. Thank you @manchesterunited!”
