Skit maker and comedian Chukwuemeka Ejekwu, also known as “Oga Sabinus” has threatened legal actions against beverage company Peak Milk over what he described as unauthorised usage of his trademark.

Sabinus also sued UAC Foods, the makers of the sausage roll Gala, for using his photos in an advertisement campaign.

Sabinu’s legal team led by Stanley Alieke expressed his displeasure that Friesland Foods, the parent firm for peak milk, used the comedian’s catchphrase “something hooge” in an advert on its social media handle.

Reports suggest that Sabinus demanded the sum of N1 billion in compensation and damages. The brand has two weeks from the receipt of the notice or risk facing a lawsuit.

“The advert which was made on the Peak Milk Nigeria verified Instagram page (peak_milk) was posted on the 24th day of May 2022 which was used to promote the Peak National Breakfast Week.

Furthermore, Sabinus demanded N100 million in compensation from UAC foods for using an animated version of him in a social media advertising campaign.

“You made a post on your verified Instagram handle (gala sausage roll), on the 23rd of May, 2022 with the picture of our client. The post which was a cartoon of our client was captioned “the way I calculate everything in my life”.

UAC foods also have 14 days to comply or risk legal action.
