Osimhen dazzles, claims top scorer in qualifiers

Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen has confirmed his rating as the best goals scorer in the continent following the conclusion of AFCON qualifiers. The Napoli of Italy star scored a total of 10 goals, five more than Senegal’s Sadio Mane.

Osimhen had netted seven times before Sunday’s encounter against Sao Tome and Principe. His hatrick in a 6-0 demolition of Sao Tome at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium, brought his tally to 10 in the qualifiers.

Sadio Mane of Senegal and Al Nasr of Saudi Arabia scored five goals for his country during the qualifiers. Manes’s goals came in a game against Benin Republic-3-0 in which he scored all the goals. He also found the back of the net with the only goal, in a 1-0 away win against Rwanda. Mane completed his five goal haul against Mozambique in a 5-1

Zambia and Leicester City’s forward Patson Daka also helped his country grab the AFCON ticket with his four goals. Zambia finished the group with with 13 points, same with Cote’ d Ivoire which placed second.

Namibia’s Peter Shalulile, Louis Mafouta of Central African Republic and Dango Ouattara of Burkina Faso all scored four goals each. The AFCON tournament will take place in Cote d’ Ivoire in January 2024
