The National Chairman of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Senator Iyorchia Ayu, has commended Sokoto State governor, Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, for his role in the just-concluded presidential primary of the party.
The special convention of the party took place at the Moshood Abiola Stadium in Abuja with former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar emerging as the winner.
Tambuwal, who had been screened to contest the presidential ticket, announced his withdrawal from the race while making a presentation at the event. He went further to ask his supporters to back Atiku Abubakar in the race.
At the end of the exercise, Atiku polled 371 votes and was declared the winner, while Nyesom Wike, governor of Rivers, who was his closest challenger, secured 237 votes.
Speaking on Sunday when he paid a visit to Tambuwal, the PDP national chairman hailed him for his efforts during the convention.
“Thank you. You are the hero of the convention,” Ayu told Tambuwal as they shook hands.
