The advance convoy of President Muhammadu Buhari came under attack by gunmen suspected to be bandits in his home state of Katsina.

Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Mr Garba Shehu confirmed this in a press statement in which he stated that the convoy was on its way to Katsina with President Buhari’s advance team of security, protocol, and media personnel to prepare for the President’s arrival in Daura ahead of the Sallah celebration.

The attack took place near Katsina in Dutsinma.

Garba Shehu went on to say that the attackers opened fire on the convoy from various ambush positions, but the attack was repelled by the military personnel and DSS officers who were in the convoy.

Two people in the convoy were injured, but no one was killed. The convoy arrived safely in Daura.

With this development, it is unclear whether President Buhari will travel to Daura for the Sallah celebration.

The assault on his convoy is the latest in a string of attacks across the country.
