Former US President Donald Trump’s account on the social media platform Twitter has been restored. This was in response to a poll conducted by Twitter CEO Elon Musk, who asked people to vote yes or no on Trump’s return to the platform.
This poll had 15 million participants, with 52% voting yes and 48% voting no. Elon responded to the outcome by tweeting, “The people have spoken. Trump will be reinstated.”
Many people were expecting Elon Musk to reinstate Trump, so his reinstatement came as no surprise. Since announcing his intention to buy Twitter, he has stated that one of the things he wants to pursue is free speech. He also stated that people should not be silenced simply because they hold an unpopular opinion.
Some people who were banned from the platform have returned so far, including Jordan Peterson and Kathy Griffith, who were banned for various reasons. Kanye West, the rapper, also tested his Twitter account a few days ago, saying he wanted to see if it still worked.
Even with Trump’s reinstatement, people are unsure whether he will return. This is because, after being banned from Twitter, Trump launched his own platform, Truth Social. As a result, his departure from the platform to return to Twitter may send the message that it isn’t an important platform, devaluing the company.
Furthermore, “Truth Social” is a private company that is on the verge of going public as a result of Trump’s influence. He might not want to risk losing millions by returning to Twitter.
When Trump learned about the poll, he launched a scathing attack on the company. “I see a lot of issues with Twitter. I hear we’re getting a big vote to go back on Twitter as well. I don’t see it because there’s no reason for it,”
Everything is still unclear at this time, but Trump’s return appears unlikely. His account has been reactivated regardless of the path he takes.
