As the campaign season approaches, presidential candidates for the 2023 general election have been invited to sign a peace accord that includes a promise to conduct issue-based campaigns during the campaign period. The invitation is issued by the National Peace Committee (NPC).

The peace agreement will be signed on September 29th at the International Conference Centre in Abuja. Among those expected to attend are Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Alhaji Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), and Mr. Peter Obi of the Labour Party (LP).

The peace accord will be signed twice, once in September and once in January 2023, according to NPC Chairman Gen. Abdulsalami Abubakar. The September agreement ensures peaceful issue-based campaigns free of violence, while the January agreement ensures peaceful elections free of all forms of violence.

The National Peace Committee (NPC) is a non-governmental organisation founded in 2014 in response to new threats posed by the 2015 general elections. It is made up of eminent elder statesmen who work to support free, fair, and credible elections while also intervening in critical national issues through high-level mediated and alternative dispute resolution mechanisms.
