The President held a meeting with the embattled Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, and his predecessor, Nyesom Wike, who is the current Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, at the Aso Villa in Abuja on Tuesday.
This was revealed by the Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, who attended the Nigeria Police Council meeting at the Villa. He said the President was trying to resolve the political and security challenges facing Rivers State.
The meeting came a day after the Rivers State House of Assembly initiated impeachment proceedings against Fubara for alleged gross misconduct. The Assembly Complex was engulfed in chaos on Sunday night when a fire broke out and on Monday morning when gunshots were heard as some principal officers were removed.
Fubara, who visited the Complex on Monday to assess the damage, claimed that he was shot at by the police. The police said they were investigating the claim.
