This summer’s record-breaking transfer window comes to a close today, September 1 at 11pm, with several teams still eyeing up important moves ahead of a long and demanding season.
As at this morning, the transactions have broken the all-time spending record for transfers within one window, splashing over £1.5billion on new players.
Many clubs are still much involved in the late rush transfer business. Chelsea have tabled a £44m offer for Ajax anchorman Edson Alvarez last night. Barcelona rejected an offer of £12m plus Marcos Alonso for Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang. Milan’s Rafael Leao, Palace’s Wilfried Zaha and Villa’s Douglas Luiz are all admired.
Liverpool are targeting Arthur Metu of Juventus to strengthen their midfield after it was confirmed that Jordan Henderson will spend some time on the treatment table. Before now, the Reds have been looking for a midfielder such as Konrad Laimer at RB Leipzig but he is joining Bayern next summer. Borussia Dortmund’s Jude Bellingham is lined up for next summer if nobody else arrives.
Manchester City confirmed the signing of Defender Manuel Akanji from Borussia Dortmund for £17m as they need cover for the injured Nathan Ake and Aymeric Laporte.
After capturing Brazilian attacker, Antony from Ajax Amsterdam, Manchester United may look to add cover at right back should a suitable bid arrive for Aaron Wan-Bissaka, but the Red Devils are not keen to sell him at this stage. Martin Dubravka will today join from Newcastle.
