Google has approved former US President Donald Trump’s app Truth Social for distribution on the Google Play store. According to a Google spokesman, the creators of Truth Social, Trump Media & Technology Group, have been given the approval to make the app available to the general public in the Google Play store.

Truth Social was released in the United States’ Apple app store in February. However, due to insufficient content moderation, it was not available in the Google Play store. Google also expressed concern that Truth Social was infringing on some of its content policies, which prohibit physical threats and incitement of violence.

The Google Play store is the primary method by which Android phone users download apps. However, apps can also be obtained through channels other than the store, such as websites. However, these methods are more time consuming and necessitate additional security checks.

Trump was barred from using social media platforms such as Twitter, Facebook, and YouTube after being accused of making comments that contributed to the January 6, 2021 US Capitol riots. Truth Social aided in restoring the former President’s social media presence after his ban.

Truth Social, according to Trump Media and Technology Group, will provide an engaging and censorship-free experience especially around topics relating to the 2020 US Presidential elections which Trump lost.
