On Tuesday, a Federal High Court in Abuja convicted and sentenced two co-defendants to two years in prison in a suit filed by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) against suspended DCP Abba Kyari over an alleged drug deal.

Chibunna Umeibe and Emeka Ezenwanne, the 6th and 7th defendants were convicted accordingly, according to Justice Emeka Nwite, after admitting to committing the offence charged against them in counts 5, 6, and 7 by the NDLEA.

Following that, Justice Nwite sentenced them to two years in prison on counts 5, 6, and 7.

He stated that the terms, which would run concurrently, would begin the day the defendants were arrested by the NDLEA.

VIP magazine reports that the two defendants, Umeibe and Ezenwanne, who are the sixth and seventh defendants in the case, were arrested at the Akanu Ibiam International Airport in Enugu by the Nigerian police and turned over to the NDLEA.

They had pleaded guilty to five, six, and seven counts brought by the anti-drug agency.

Sunday Joseph, counsel for the NDLEA, informed Justice Emeka Nwite at the resumed hearing that two motions seeking a plea bargain in the cases of Umeibe and Ezenwanne had been filed.

According to Joseph, the motions, dated June 13, were filed on June 14.

E. U. Okenyi, the lawyer for the two defendants, agreed with Joseph’s submission.

In addition, counsel for the other defendants, including Kyari, did not object to the motions.
